A Principled Practice

Namaste'

If you're interested in a deep principled practice of Yoga, as a studio owner I want to share with you about what our communities really need from yoga teachers.

Classic studies and experienced mentorship.

There's a lot of talk in YogaLand about how difficult it is to find a mature, responsible, and skilled yoga teacher these days. Over the past 15 years, Big Corporate Studios turned out throngs of certified students that appear to be leading large groups in a similar vinyasa flow. And you've no doubt heard about Yoga and Goats (enter endless fun activities here). Although it may be fun to play with goats or cats or beer, attempting to pair Yoga with unpredictable circumstances is rarely a true Yoga experience. Just as a parent of a toddler what their home Yoga practice is like and you'll get the idea. You do what you can, but it's not a substitute for the real thing.

Here are three reasons we need to get back to basics and actually mentor students in their desire to share and teach Yoga to special populations:

1. The majority of prospective yoga students are not young, fit, or flexible. They need individualized teaching due to health concerns and limited mobility.

2. Many people think that yoga is a workout and a good stretch. These students are at the gym with their shoes and cell phones on their mat. When those students come to a studio, they need to become acquainted with yoga studio etiquette and develop patience for the deeper inquiry that comes with a complete practice.

3. We are slowly losing the foundations of classical yoga. The corporate studios feel it's too "retro", and students who came to yoga in the past 5-10 years are missing out on essential benefits of pranayama, mantra, and meditation.

Sooner or later, we will return to the tried and true classics because it works. Classics stand the test of time, and this is what we teach: gentle, adaptable, and breath-centered. I invite you to take a look at our Yoga Studies courses that will give you the deep personal practice and skills for sharing your passion for Yoga and the health and well-being of people.

Details and enrollment information is on my website: www.fullcircleyogaoc.com

"Dynamic Yoga Anatomy" starts May 4th and "History, Philosophy, and the Yoga Lifestyle" starts July 6th, 2019! These 7 week classes are the only two opportunities this year to take our Yoga Studies program. They are prerequisites for "Ethics & Professionalism in the Student-Teacher Relationship" and "Designing Effective Classes."

Those who wish to enrich their knowledge without joining a program may take these first two classes a la carte depending on your interests and needs. Reach out to me at 714-404-2576 if you have any questions.

Kindly,

Kristen Fewel
