Pillars of Practice
At Full Circle Yoga, we use a gentle, encouraging approach to yoga for people of all ages who want to feel better naturally - physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Yoga is not simply poses to be mastered; it is pathway to self-realization which begins with finding ease and stability in the body, mental clarity, and emotional balance. For some, yoga may open windows into spiritual development, and all belief systems are respected here.
Resolving an issue through yoga shows merely the "tip of the iceberg" of what is possible, and for that we are delighted to teach you and work with you as you discover more of what is possible, no matter what condition you are in now.
My pillars of practice are posture, breathing, and meditation to provide you with strong foundations as you discover strength, resilience, fortitude, vulnerability, courage, and capacity for learning and growing.
Your First Private Lesson
At your first Yoga Therapy/Assessment of Needs appointment, you will be asked to complete an intake form with a brief health history. Then we will discuss the primary issues you are experiencing and your goals for learning yoga and/or meditation. If you have medical issues or want to learn better ways to cope with chronic pain or injury, yoga therapy will be a part of your lessons. I will assess your posture, rate and depth of breathing, range of motion, and identify any movements or positions that would not be safe or beneficial for you. I will then design a yoga therapy sequence for you and recommend a series of lessons to teach it to you. You can expect the first session to last about 1 1/4 hours.
What to Bring
Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing which allows you free movement, but there is no need to bring anything else. We generally practice barefoot, so you'll be asked to remove your shoes before entering the yoga practice room. You may bring a mat and a closed-top water bottle if you have one, but we have everything you'll need.
Follow-up Yoga Lessons
To receive your custom yoga therapy sequence, schedule an appointment for one week following your assessment so I can thoroughly explain and teach it to you. It can take 2-3 follow up lessons to learn the sequence well enough to do your yoga practice on your own which is highly encouraged. The more you do it, the sooner you will feel improvement. You are welcome to bring a recording device if you wish to help you recall how to do the movements, how to use props (i.e. block, blanket, cushion), when to breath in or out, for how long, and duration of rest in between each pose in the sequence.
Benefits of Private Yoga Lessons
Following an Assessment of Needs, a series of private lessons will...
● introduce you to the guiding principles of yoga.
● teach the use props such as blocks, blankets, cushions, and ties.
● prepare you for participation in group classes, if that is your goal.
● give real-time feedback on the progress of your practice.
● assure comfort and convenience by providing and arranging everything needed for practice. (i.e. mat, blankets, blocks, straps, chair, etc.)
● help you achieve your goals for relief of pain and stiffness, safe and beneficial activity, regulation of mind and emotions, and refine concentration and focus.
Other modalities may also be used to provide support for your body and mind during healing or life change such as:
● mantra and/or sound healing
● mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques
● support for emotional release
● spiritual guidance
