YACEP course -- 60 hours (50 contact hours).
This module requires 5 hours of observation and evaluation of yoga/meditation classes. Students will learn a step by step progression of mindfulness to samadhi using 10 different objects of meditation students can use to guide meditations for others. Includes sound and vibration, mindfulness through the senses, reiki self-healing (a hands on approach to focus intention on peace and healing in the body), yoga nidra, and Zen. Additionally, we will discuss Patajali's yamas and niyamas (ethical restraints and observances) to discuss solutions to real-life ethical dilemmas that may be encountered as a yoga teacher. We will screen the documentary Yoga Is to bring to light the influences of history, culture, gender, sex, and sense of purpose on the practice of yoga.

This class is an in-depth, analytical study of anatomy and asana. Covers anatomical location and function of muscles, bones, joint movements, organ systems and their functions with a focus on the respiratory system. Additionally we investigate and assess posture and movement patterns, learn and practice modifications of asana to normalize or accommodate abnormal/dysfunctional movement patterns, and kriyas (purification techniques). We offer a 10 day Health & Lifestyle Journal Reflection assignment to evaluate and improve lifestyle habits and each class includes a 75 minute yoga and meditation practice. We analyze the majority of common postures to understand the primary and secondary functions through in class hands-on learning experiences and homework studies.

This class presents an in-depth study of the role breathing has on the yoga experience, including vinyasa, mantra (sound), and kriya (purification). We will challenge our breath for endurance, as appropriate, and for stress reduction in asana and meditation. In addition to breathwork, this module covers the history of yoga from the Vedas to Patanjali, the yoga family tree from the grandfather of modern yoga Krishnamacharya and his son TKV Desikachar, and other classical yoga lineages. Includes a 90 minute guided class each week, and several documentaries including Breath of the Gods, and Yoga Unveiled: The Evolution and Essence of a Spiritual Tradition.

Students will be led through selected reading and chanting of the Yogasutra of Patanjali using Frans Moors book, Liberating Isolation, and related commentary. For further study, we use selected readings from Teaching Yoga: Exploring the Teacher-Student Relationship by Donna Farhi which underscores the importance of consistent practice and the sacred nature of the teacher-student relationship.
Internship: 20 hours of co-teaching and/or supervised teaching outside of class.
Elective: Reiki 1/2 Practitioner Certification
March, 2019 TBA
Not a YACEP course.
This class is established through the foundations of Usui Japanese healing and independent energywork using Soul (rei) energy (ki). Attuning to Reiki significantly improves your ability to sense and utilize energy, improve health, and focus your intentions. Students will learn and practice eight symbols in a hands-on self-healing protocol, receive a personal healing treatment, give a treatment to others. Level 2 reiki includes sending reiki to others and empowering goals. We conclude our training with a crystal bowl and sound healing play-workshop, vegan potluck, and closing circle.
