The truth of the history of Yoga is unfolding at a more rapid rate than ever before. the culture of yoga is changing. We are going to look at Yoga's spiritual roots, invented traditions, and how the snowball of institutionalized yoga in the west got started, and discuss how our practice should serve us as individuals. I have revised and updated our handbooks to reflect the impact that former gurus have had on institutional lineages in light of recent guru scandals, the #metoo movement, and emerging post-lineage community groups.
Are you curious about why certain yoga practices look like they do? What events gave rise to their historical claim on authority in the practice? Join me for gentle breath-centered practice, lecture, and deep discussion at my summer series, "History, Philosophy, and the Yoga Lifestyle" starting July 20th, 11am-5pm.
