Yoga lessons & Yoga Therapy
Principles of Practice
Yoga is a path, a journey, and a state of being. Considering there are numerous ways to practice and experience yoga,
I teach posture, breathing, and sustainable mental focus using non-dogmatic, plain language to communicate ancient teachings so the benefits of yoga can be felt and understood by anyone who seeks them.
For those interested in what I teach, I mainly use a breath-centered method called hatha vinyasa krama guided by knowledge of the body, ancient yogic wisdom, and inspired by the teachings of TKV Desikachar. Other styles of yoga I incorporate into my sessions are Restorative, Yin, and Chair yoga using props as necessary for comfort and stability.
Your First Private Lesson
Duration: ~75 minutes
Your journey begins with a personalized Assessment of Needs where we'll discuss your health history, current challenges, and goals. I guide you through a gentle practice while assessing your posture, breathing, and range of motion, exchanging feedback as we go along.
From the very first lesson, I want to help you discover more of what's possible - whether that is to resolve an issue, prepare you for group classes, and build your confidence in the wisdom of your body and breath.
What to Bring
-
What to wear: Comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows you to move freely.
-
Footwear: We practice barefoot, so you'll be asked to remove your shoes before entering the studio.
-
Optional: You are welcome to bring your own mat and a closed-top water bottle, but we provide all the props and equipment you'll need.
Follow-up Lessons
About a week after your 1st lesson, your custom yoga sequence will be ready and I will teach you how to do it. It typically takes 2-3 follow-up lessons to feel confident and comfortable practicing your custom sequence at home on your own, which is why I offer a package of 3 lessons. The more consistent you are, the sooner you’ll feel lasting improvement.
Tip: You are welcome to bring a phone or recording device to capture your customized movements, breathing cues, and prop setups for easy reference at home.
